About my work
I work holistically, incorporating all the body’s systems, to facilitate the release of long-standing tensions and support the healing process.

I’m committed to integrity and honesty, working with patients to find the best course of action for them. Patients are reassessed carefully at every visit and we discuss progress.

I believe that osteopathy sessions should be geared where possible towards giving self-healing skills to take home that will enable the patient to have more control of their own health.

I’ve had particular success with long-term reoccurring problems; patients who have had multiple falls, car accidents, operations or illnesses; and sensitive people needing extremely unintrusive treatment.

I’ve been working as an osteopath since 2003 and have worked at clinics in London, Lincolnshire and Oxfordshire. These include a multidisciplinary clinic specialising in pregnancy and pre-conceptual care, a sports injury clinic and general osteopathic clinics for a adult and paediatric patients.

I’m registered with the General Osteopathic Council and a member of the Sutherland Cranial College and the British Osteopathic Association.

I have a degree from the British School of Osteopathy qualifying in 2003 after 4 years’ full-time study, and a diploma in paediatric osteopathy from  the Osteopathic Centre for Children. I have undertaken postgraduate studies in Cranial and Paediatric Osteopathy and continue to study and develop my skills. I’m currently undertaking a series of Biodynamic Cranial Osteopathy courses with James Jealous in Oregon, USA as well as the Sutherland Cranial College programme of courses. I’ve also worked at the Osteopathic Centre for Children as a volunteer.

I’m DBS checked, fully insured, and registered with most insurance companies including BUPA.

I’m also an Alexander Technique teacher, having graduated in 2014, and I teach one-to-one lessons. I also teach anatomy and physiology to Alexander Technique teacher trainees at the Alexander Re-education Centre in Hurley.

Ben is an absolute ‘must have’ in my contact list and I recommend him without hesitation.

Mother of twins

Ben is a skilled and intuitive osteopath with a sensitive approach to his clients and a focussed approach to his work. I am amazed at how much he can perceive through his light touch treatment and how effective the results can be.

Full-time carer

I can’t adequately explain how much Ben has helped me during the last 12 months of regular visits to him. I suffer from osteoarthritis and tinnitus and always leave his surgery feeling restored and energised and ready to return to everyday life. I call his surgery my oasis of calm. I highly recommend you use the services of Ben and see the improvement in your well-being first hand.

Former back pain sufferer

Having suffered with lower back pain for about 10 years, Ben was recommended to me by a friend. With his expert knowledge and gentle touch, my back pain ceased after four sessions and this has made such a difference to my quality of life – I haven’t felt this good for years! I now see Ben every 3 months for ‘general maintenance’. I highly recommend him.

Mother of twins

My twins were born naturally, the first with venteuse and the second with forceps.  Cranial osteopathy was recommended to relieve any pressure the girls had experienced from the lengthy labour and birth.  The results were incredible, two results most markedly.  The first was within six weeks of their birth.  Asha has been struggling to breast feed and after a single treatment she was able to widen her jaw making breast feeding much easier for her and more comfortable for me.

The second most impressive result was the release of tension in her legs after she was a year old.  As the second twin she was in the womb longer than Sophia and she experienced not only her own birth but Sophia’s birth too.  I imagine during Sophia’s birth she felt squashed by the contractions with no passage out as that was blocked by her sister.  Prior to Ben’s treatment she wouldn’t allow anything to cover her legs, blankets, cushions etc. resulting in more than the usual sleepless nights, especially when it was cold.  She also didn’t like being tickled and was very insistent about me firmly rubbing her legs before she went to sleep, directing my hands to where the pressure was required.  After three of Ben’s treatments she was not only ticklish, but pulling the duvet over herself before she went to sleep and she was also significantly less insistent on me rubbing her legs.

Ben is a skilled and intuitive osteopath with a sensitive approach to his clients and a focussed approach to his work.  I am amazed at how much he can perceive through his light touch treatment and how effective the results can be.  Asha now tells me when she wants to see Ben because she has ‘hurt legs or feet’.

First-time mother

I have taken Ellie for two courses of treatment with Ben since she was born. At 4 months, she was suffering from what appeared to be digestion pain and cried a lot. Ben linked this back to when she had to have a stomach pump just after birth as well as what he explained are common birth stresses. Later, a combination of factors including early walking, a spinal tap and a head injury led to her complaining about discomfort in her feet and legs, expressed particularly by writhing about at night. At 16 months, I took Ellie back to see Ben and through gentle treatment, he has made her much more comfortable and relaxed, and her night episodes have cleared up.

Horse rider
Following a riding accident which resulted in severe whiplash, I found Ben’s website and was intrigued by this form of treatment, in particular that there is no “pulling and pushing”! After only two treatments, the pain and stiffness was hugely improved and I had more movement than I thought possible. Ben also worked on realigning my shoulders and pelvis, after which I noticed when riding my horse that I could lengthen my right stirrup by a hole – clearly I had been tight and short through the right side of my body. I would highly recommend Ben’s gentle and skilled treatment to anyone.
Mother of two children helped by Ben

Ben is an absolute ‘must have’ in my contact list and I recommend him without hesitation. He helped my eldest daughter, aged 7, who suffered with fluid in her ears – she couldn’t hear us talking at a normal volume whilst standing right behind her. After 6 sessions with Ben the fluid had completely drained without the need for surgery to have grommets fitted. She subsequently passed a perfect hearing test at the RBH. Two years on her ears are still absolutely fine. My youngest daughter started losing her hair in March 2020, aged 4. Within a few weeks she had a 6cm diameter circular bald patch on her scalp. We applied steroid cream for 2 months but the bald patch just kept growing. I asked Ben to help and after just 2 sessions I could see tiny hair growth. About 10 sessions later Ben finished her treatment. By then she had strong hair growth covering the whole area and it is still growing strong now. I can’t recommend Ben highly enough. He is highly experienced, exceptional yet understated, thorough and professional. He maintains strict Covid compliant cleanliness standards and won’t continue treatment any longer than is necessary.

I have a long history of back pain with severe congenital scoliosis and I have sought out the very best Cranial Osteopaths in London and Bath. I was anxious when I had to move to Oxfordshire but I was amazed and delighted to find Ben Colyer in Henley-on-Thames. Ben is one of the very best Cranial Osteopaths I have ever been lucky enough to work with. My back has gone from strength to strength and I have even been able to take up gardening, something I never imagined my back could endure. I have introduced a number of friends to Ben for back and hip issues and they are all delighted by the results of his treatments. We all have a huge respect for Ben’s ability as a Cranial Osteopath as well as really appreciating him as a wonderful and kind person.

Having tried various things we were at a loss as to how we could relieve our son’s hearing and breathing problems with sleepless nights. We called Ben and after a very friendly and informal consultation suggested a course of action on which we agreed. The course was a success in bringing our son’s hearing back to normal levels and allowing him to breathe again through his nose after two years of suffering. It also meant he didn’t have to have surgery and got the all clear by the hospital. It was a great relief to our 5-year old, and a lot less sleepless nights for us. We would happily recommend this drug-free remedy to other parents whose children are suffering from ENT related problems.

Both my children have had cranial osteopathy sessions with Ben Colyer.  My son was treated at around 18 months for persistant night waking and crying, as we suspected from his behavior he was uncomfortable in some way.  My daughter was treated at 6 weeks old as she was a fretful baby, paritcularly in the evenings and was very difficult to settle. His quiet and patient approach put the children at ease and a significant improvement was noted in both cases.  I would have no hesitation in recommending Ben.

I have been receiving treatment from Ben for tension headaches. The treatment I received has been very helpful. My problem is now much improved. I found Ben very friendly and understanding and will always consult him in the future when needed.
